iOS Backup

By

backup_iconThere are two basic way to create an iOS backup for an Apple device, the first being a local backup to the computer via iTunes and the second being an automatic backup to the iCloud server.

Please Note: For an automated backup of the Smurf’s Village game via Game Center see the article “Backup via Game Center“. This article explains how to backup the complete iOS device and not just the game data for Smurf’s Village.

Computer Backup via iTunes

In case of theft or other troubles it is always a good idea to have a backup of your data. This goes for the iDevice as well. In the following we give you instructions on how to backup your iDevice either via iTunes or iCloud (iOS 5 required). The backup includes all of your data, not just the Smurf’s Village.
To setup iTunes to backup first plug your device into iTunes and choose it from the left sidebar:

Then in the main window, scroll down to the section “Backup” and choose the second option “Backup to this computer”.

Now every time you sync your device to iTunes it creates a backup that is saved on your computer.

Manually forced backup

You can also manually force iTunes to create a backup by doing a command/right mouse click on the iDevice from the sidebar, and then choose “Back Up”. It is advised to first transfer your purchases to your computer via the “Transfer Purchases from …” option so they get backed up as well.

Show Saved Backups

If you have iTunes set up to back up to your computer you might find yourself in a situation were you want to look at what backups were saved for which device. To do that, just go to Preferences and there choose “Devices”. It shows you your current backups.

Wireless iCloud Backup

If your device is running at least iOS 5.0 you can also backup all of your data to iCloud. For that you need a free iCloud Account set up on your device. Please read here on how to do that and what an iCloud Account is: http://www.apple.com/icloud/

An iCloud backup is created wirelessly and saved on Apple’s servers and hence lets you keep your backup even if something were to happen to your hard disk.

The backup is automatically created once per day when your device is connected to a power cable and has a Wi-Fi connection.

To set up a backup via iCloud, follow the same steps in iTunes for the computer backup, but then choose “Back up to iCloud”. This means that iTunes will not back up to your computer anymore unless you force the backup via the manual function.

Restore from a backup

If you ever find yourself in the situation were you have to restore your device from a backup, just plug in your device to iTunes and with a command/right mouse click on the device choose “Restore from Backup”. iTunes will then guide you through the necessary steps.

If you have your backup saved via iCloud, just reset your device, then log into your iCloud Account and it will restore everything automatically.

Hi, I have the same exact issues as Paula Jones. I'm still waiting a response from beeline. I just backed up my device thru iTunes. I'm at a loss now as to what to do next. I was thinking of deleting my smurf village & then reinstalling it but after reading some of the post, I don't want to lose what all I've accomplished & the headache of trying to get all what I've purchased to date. The backup indicates that the restore will only do the contacts, calendar, notes & settings…not the iPad firmware?? This may be a lame question but is this mean it won't be able to restore my games & other apps? Lost, confused & unable to play, not to mention no help from Beeline as of yet. Don't know if this issue is at my end or Beelines either. BTW, I am able to play other games.

  2. Yoki says:

    Dears,
I am using Samsung S2 played my Smurf Village and bought some smurfberries 2 years ago, and now I bought a new phone Samsung Note 3, how can I transfer my Smurf Village from S2 to Note 3. Many thanks in advance !!

    • Stroumpfette says:

You cannot transfer your game to the new device unless you rooted your S2 and used a product like Titanium backup which backs up the apk data for the game or unless you have Android 4.0 or greater and use Helium to backup your apk data. You will have to restart the game on your new device, but you can open a ticket with Beeline and ask to have your purchased Smurfberries transferred to the new game id. You will need to provide receipts as proof of purchase, but you should be able to retrieve them on Google Wallet.

  3. Lexi says:

I need advice please. I played My Smurf´s Village on Samsung Nexus and I have saved datas of this game but I don´t know If it´s even possible to move or insert that data to my new phone (LG Nexus 4) and keep playing this same game on m new phone. Both of them are with Andorid.

    • Stroumpfette says:

How did you backup your game and what Android version are you running on both devices?

      • Lexi says:

In my old phone which is crashed now unfortunately i had android 4.2 and now i have android 4.3
I cant do nothing with my old phone because he is definitely dead so i connected him with computer at least and take the SV data from this phone to my computer but i dont know how to insert this SV data to my new phone (LG Nexus) and keep on playing with my old village. Is it possible somehow to use the old data and insert them with computer to my new phone and play my old village? I got this datas in ES file manager

        • Stroumpfette says:

Just copying the files won't transfer your game. You need a backup software that backs up apk data like Helium or Titanium.

          • Lexi says:

OK thank you. But I have one more question. May I transfer those datas from my game only with a SD card? because the phone is gone and everything what I have is this format of my game – com.capcom.smurfsandroid-1.asec or I have main.44.com.capcom.smurfsandroid. Is something of this usable to insert it to my new phone ? besauce I cant connect my helium on pc with my old phone where the game IS… I can only connect computer helium with my new phone. And those datas which I have in my computer I have only from my SD card… so i dont know what to do :(

          • Stroumpfette says:

No. What you have on the SD card is not enough. What you needed was on your old device. You can use Helium to backup your new game and your new phone so that if you have a crash or replace your device down the line, you will have a full backup of the apk data. You're going to have to restart the game. If you purchased smurfberries, you can open a ticket with Beeline and ask for them to be reinstated on your new device. Just tell them you switched devices. You will need to provide copies of your Google Wallet receipts when they ask for them.

Hi I play smurfs on kindle it crash with new update an won't start I tapped papa head 16 times I've restarted device and still it won't start. Help please. Have contact beeline and they say same thing but it won't work

  6. Paula Jones says:

I need some help… I have am (was) on level 53. One day last week, the app suddenly wouldnt open; either through Gamecenter or via the app itself. (I currently use the first ipad and also have an iphone 4s but lately have just played on my ipad). I tried all the usual stuff: turning on and off the ipad and restarting, game still wont load (i get to the orange beeline screen and then it shuts off and same thing if i go through the app), playing through airplane mode etc. Every now and then I may "get lucky" and I will get to the "play" button and it will turn off after that. Once it actually got to where you have to pick your most recent village, tried to pick it and it shut off. I have tried all the other stuff on your website as well. (Tried tapping Papa Smurf's head 16 times to restore and wouldnt work)… My ipad and phone back up to the icloud. I do not plug my ipad into my computer and back it up that way.

    • Smurfette says:

Have your tried logging into Game Center on your iPhone 4s? Does the village open on the iPhone? If not you might have to open a ticket with Beeline to get this issue resolved. You can reach their support team here: http://www.beeline-i.com/support.php

      • Paula Jones says:

Yes, the app crashes on my phone too. I have contacted Beeline and they were basically no help. They said since I deleted the app, there was nothing they could do.

        • Stroumpfette says:

Then, you will have to restart the game from Level 1. You can ask them to resend your purchased Smurfberries. They will ask you for copies of your receipts, but they are very good about easing the pain of having to restart the game.

  7. fedup smurfs says:

Fed up! since the new update my village keeps crashing it did it on the last update. I have done the usual turn machine on and off disconnected it from internet. Also have tried to restore old copy. We are now kn level 21. Having done it once bdfore we don't want to start again! Any ideas??

    • Stroumpfette says:

You will have to open a ticket with Beeline via their support portal at http://beeline-i.com/support.php

      • Chya says:

I have same issue and I have not ticket with beeline please help me to open my smurf village

        • Stroumpfette says:

You will need to open a ticket with Beeline. It appears you have indicated you have not already done that. You can reach them via their support portal at http://beeline-i.com/support.php

  8. Kim says:

Hi, I just got a iPad and I was able to sinc my iPod game to my iPad but they are playing as 2 different games it has my level and my smurfberries but I have to play it on both devices rather than playing on one and it being completed on the other like my other games do thru Game Center any suggestions as to why

    • Stroumpfette says:

If you started the games at different times, they will remain different games. I don't think you can merge them.

  9. g says:

I am a everyday smurf player on ANDROID. Lately im having issues with my phone and am wanting to format my phone. But I know that for android, redonwloading smurf equals starting from level zero. If I know the smurf id (the one I found when I clicked support in the app) will I be able to restore my smurf data 100%? Im currently at level34 anr I dont want to repeat all the same quests again… please? Any solutions?

    • Stroumpfette says:

No, unfortunately, there is no way to transfer the game to a new device or to restore it if you format your phone. There is a third party software Titanium Backup which may allow you to selectively restore, but you need to be comfortable with rooting your device in order to use it, and that can be tricky business. Feel free to reach out to Beeline Support to see if they have another suggestion for you at http://beeline-i.com/support.php

  10. Catherine says:

i played Level 50 then suddenly i cant on my smurfs game, why????

    • Marco Smurf says:

this is certainly a glitch, make sure that the app is closed and reboot your device and then try to re-launch it again. you may repeat the process up 3 or 4 times and hopefully it will open. That's what i do and it works for me. I hope it will work for you top

      • Catherine says:

thks for your help, but even though i try so many times, still cant, but the funny thing is i can update but cant log in

  11. Ravneet Bansal says:

I have a question, i just bought an ipad and i have tried downloading my smurf village from my ipod to ipad but whenever i play the game and return to it, it always says that i need to choose a village. it doesn't save my progress on the ipad. however, it doesn't happen like this on the ipod. please someone help!

    • NimaSheibani says:

this is a strange situation which I never heard about, please try to give me more detail hopefully I can help … do you use same GameCenter account for both ? and you play both through a GameCenter ? how did you transfer your game ,just by getting a backup or with GC ?

  12. Elle says:

Is there an backup for android phones?? I am in the process of upgrading my phone and i would like to keep my smurf village

    • Smurfette says:

There are third party backup apps etc. available, but nothing offered from the Android system itself. Sometimes the manufacturers also offer their own backup system though they are often not compatible with other phone models.

  13. Myo says:

Hi… Smurf Game is installed with itune account of my frd & now I want to update it with my itune account. It keeps asking the my frd itune account password I don’t know. How should I update it with my iTune account? I m dying to update it. Please suggest me sth…. :)

    • Stroumpfette says:

You can't. It is tied to the account that downloaded it. you can always download your own version of the game on your own device and start from the beginning if you like.

    • Smurfette says:

If you have game center, make sure your game is saved to it, then delete the app (but make a backup before to be sure you won't loose anything) and redownload it with your account. This only works on iOS, not on Android though

  14. Schijnheilige says:

He! i have smurf village on my phone and i want to sync to my ipad mini! how can i do this?
    thanks!

    • Smurfette says:

If your phone is an iPhone then you can do it via Game Center, just create an account on your iPhone (or log in if you already have one) and then log into that same account on your iPad and open the game, it will ask you if you want to continue your iPhone village on the iPad. If your phone is an Andoid device you cannot do it, as Android and iOS villages are incompatible.

  15. Dina says:

I am on level 31 on my iPad..I installed the same app on my android phone.how can I sync it so that I'm playing the same game?

  16. elica says:

what to do how to fix the game with Android but can I go to the village can not do recovery or Airplane mode helps.

  17. Upset says:

Hi :) I have a strange question…. I want to make new profile on iTunes and to delete my old one, but onlu thing I don't want to lose is my Smurf villige… I love this game and I don't want to lose levels I got. So my question is there any way to change my profile and then to safe my leves on this game???

    • Smurfette says:

If you use Game Center, your village will be saved there, if you log into the same Game Center Account that you used before you can continue playing your village, even though you have a different iTunes account. But before you try it make a backup via iTunes/iCloud so that you can restore if anything goes wrong.

  18. Monicka says:

  21. Dee says:

    Hi there

I am thinking about deleting and reinstalling my game due to so many glitches, (am worried I loose my game though!!). I sync my ipod regularly to itunes, can I recover my entire game from itunes, my friend seemed to think it does not back up the actual contents of the game, is this a safe option, my problems started when I had to reset my apple password twice.

    Thanks

  22. Yariss31 says:

Which back up device is best,ITunes or ICloud? I don't want or use ITunes cause it takes over stuff…but which one is best nd Ty

    • Brainy says:

I still use ios 4.2 so my only option is itune .

      • Yariss31 says:

Ty for replying, I use IPad 2 5.0 so I just backed up to ICloud …will see what happens and hopefully I won't ever have to look for my back up game. Lol

  23. Shaz says:

I am currently on Level 31 using an iPhone 3 V4.02. I want to begin using an iPhone 4 and synched the iPhone with my computer in preparation. Everything went well except for my Smurfs – it showed up as level 1 on the computer version. I don't want to lose all my progress. How do i do this?

    • Sassete says:

sometimes you need to play for a while and after a time you get an option if you want to have your old village back or if you want to start from lv 1 othewise try to sync it again and se if that works

  24. Princess Smurfette says:

    Hi There Brainy!

well i guess you're the right smurf to ask, well kinda BRAINY?!. My smurfs village crashed. im on level 25 and my village is pretty. i worked hard on that. it upsets me that i crashed. i cant open it after beeline. it simply just goes to the home screen. I tried everything you guys suggested. restarting my device. i tried so many times, even hard reboot, still the same. i tried backing up through itunes then i removed the app from my phone and then tried backing and there it goes! i opened my village! Back to level 1! and it kinda upsets me more, i tried tapping papa smurfs head 16 times, the only back-up i have is level 1, i tried logging in to facebook, and everytime i do it just reverted to the log-in facebook account again. anyone please? thanks.

    • Woody says:

When you delete the game it will ask you for a confirmation and subsequently if you like to keep the data. You need to respond yes otherwise you will loose your village. When reloading you will start again on level one. Dont start playing, after a couple of seconds.. Minutes .. The game will compare your local version to the gamecenter one. Choose your village and you can continue playing.

  25. Marty says:

How do you Back your village up when using Facebook

    • Sassete says:

I dont think that you can use facebook to back up your village. To get a back uo you can use game center or itunes if you are playing on an Ios device. If you are playing on an android you need to back up on a computer.

      • Renee says:

How do I back up on a computer? I am playing on an Android phone.

        • Stroumpfette says:

At this time, there is no way to back up the game from an Android device to a computer. There are products like Titanium Backup out there which require you to be comfortable rooting your phone in order to utilize them. Beeline is aware that the only backups Android players have are the hidden backups one can access with the recovery option. If you're getting ready to upgrade your device, you can always open a ticket with Beeline and let them know you are getting a new device and that you understand the village cannot be moved to a new Android device. Beeline has been very fair about reinstating purchased smurfberries so that Android players who have to start over can do so in a less painful way. You should be prepared to provide receipt numbers from Google Wallet as proof of purchase. Here is the address to Beeline's support portal: http://beeline-i.com/support.php

  26. Ngo Wun says:

I want to choose the "Backup to this computer" option in iTunes because I have a ton of photos that goes well over the iCloud 5 GB limit. Anyway, I can find no options for where to store my backup, scheduling, etc. I want to put it on my huge external USB drive, not my local hard drive but there is nothing in the iTunes menu that lets me control that. Is there some kind of hidden way to choose your backup options?
Also, when I click on "Apply" after selecting "Backup to this computer" the radio button goes back to "Backup to iCloud". What gives there? Thanks…

  27. norma says:

i recently got an ipad, i did the sync and removed the game from my itouch, but now i keep getting the request to choose "which game do I want?" the saved one or the one from gamecenter. I always pick the game center one, but i keeps asking me every time i log in…even a few time while playing and i have to redo everything i had just done.

  28. muscle smurf says:

    Dear Smurfette,

is it possible to backup my village without the help of game center? I'm only using an iphone 3g.

    • Poet says:

Dear muscle smurf, if you do not want to use game center, you can try the Papa Smurf option. i.e. go to the game's menu, options, and then tap on Papa Smurf's head 16 times, and a 'recover village' button should appear. From there, you can choose which saved you game you wish to retrieve.

  29. Karen says:

I did a restore on my iPad now my village is back to lev el 26. It's snowing and dreamy smurf is gone, my upgrade of farmer smurfs hut is gone. I hit the papa smurfs head 16 times and tried to load yesterday's village, but when I hit preview village, nothing happens. How can I get it all back?

    • Smurfette says:

You can't, if the update did not bring it back and there are no backup points, you have to just do it over from this point. If you have lost Smurfberries that you bought, you can contact Beeline and they will resend them to you.

  30. Smurfette says:

Yes, it can. You need the same Game Center Account. But you can not play at the same time, because then one progress will be overwritten by the other.

  31. Vio says:

    Hi Smurfette,

Would it be possible for me and my friend to share the same village on two different devices? She and I both have ipads and we'd like to play this game together. Can this be achieved via sharing the same game centre ID?

    Thanks!

  32. Gwen says:

Hi.. How to update my smurf village on my ipad2 ? I cant visit other village. .Someone pls help

    • Smurfette says:

Go to the App Store on your device and click on the Update button at the bottom. You can also download the Update to your computer and sync it via itunes.

  33. Ejbryson says:

I downloaded the new update and i have no sound, have toggled sound on and off and even restarted iPad no joy? any solutions?

  34. Peter says:

How can i backup and restor my smurf village status with an Android based device?

    • Smurfette says:

It is not so easy on Android, either your manufacturer offers a backup software for your device or you will have to use a third party application that can make a backup of your device's data.

  35. Noslrac27 says:

Can I make a backup just for smurfvillage?

    • Smurfette says:

No, an iTunes backup (or iCloud backup) is always for all of your data. If you just want a backup of your village I suggest to connect it with Game Center, because then a version of it is saved on apple's servers and you can either restore it or play on a different device should you want to.

  36. Ronn Pitt says:

My sound has gone. All settings are on!
    What went wrong??

  37. Missing Smurfs. Still says:

Alchemist, Marco & Scardy are all still missing from my village.

  38. Matt says:

    Thanks for the tip

  39. Army Smurf says:

I know its been discussed a million times in the XMAS Update thread

just want to confirm that Macro & Grouchy is still missing for other people.

(Macro did show up for about a day in my village, but then went MIA)

    • Smurfette says:

Are you sure he (Marco) did not just go to a friends village? Have you looked for the sign on your friends banners? As for Grouchy, this can probably only be fixed with an update by Beeline.

      • Army Smurf says:

Yes I am sure he is not in a freinds village.

Ohh well I guess I will just have to wait a few more weeks for beeline to work on the issue some more.

  40. Dee says:

    Hi Brainy
Thanks for the reply, I do not have the smurf game icon under the games tab on GC, it was there but disappeared when my password was reset, along with my interaction with other players however it does say I'm logged in to GC when I access the game from the app on my ipod. When I tap Papa Smurf there are all the saved games there. I guess it's just a chance I take but I'm thinking I will abandon the idea to reinstall!!

    Thanks Brainy

    Keep on Smurfin'!!!…
