Backing up the device via iTunes or iCloud

By

1. Computer Backup

In case of theft or other troubles it is always a good idea to have a backup of your data. This goes for the iDevice as well. In the following we give you instructions on how to backup your iDevice either via iTunes or iCloud (iOS 5 required). The backup includes all of your data, not just the Smurf’s Village.

To setup iTunes to backup first plug your device into iTunes and choose it from the left sidebar:

Then in the main window, scroll down to the section “Backup” and choose the second option “Backup to this computer”.

Now every time you sync your device to iTunes it creates a backup that is saved on your computer.

2. Manually forced backup

You can also manually force iTunes to create a backup by doing a command/right mouse click on the iDevice from the sidebar, and then choose “Back Up”. It is advised to first transfer your purchases to your computer via the “Transfer Purchases from …” option so they get backed up as well.

3. Show Saved Backups

If you have iTunes set up to back up to your computer you might find yourself in a situation were you want to look at what backups were saved for which device. To do that, just go to Preferences and there choose “Devices”. It shows you your current backups.

4. Wireless iCloud Backup

If your device is running at least iOS 5.0 you can also backup all of your data to iCloud. For that you need a free iCloud Account set up on your device. Please read here on how to do that and what an iCloud Account is: http://www.apple.com/icloud/

An iCloud backup is created wirelessly and saved on Apple’s servers and hence lets you keep your backup even if something were to happen to your hard disk.

The backup is automatically created once per day when your device is connected to a power cable and has a Wi-Fi connection.

To set up a backup via iCloud, follow the same steps in iTunes for the computer backup, but then choose “Back up to iCloud”. This means that iTunes will not back up to your computer anymore unless you force the backup via the manual function.

5. Restore from a backup

If you ever find yourself in the situation were you have to restore your device from a backup, just plug in your device to iTunes and with a command/right mouse click on the device choose “Restore from Backup”. iTunes will then guide you through the necessary steps.

I know its been discussed a million times in the XMAS Update thread

just want to confirm that Macro & Grouchy is still missing for other people.

(Macro did show up for about a day in my village, but then went MIA)

    • Smurfette says:

Are you sure he (Marco) did not just go to a friends village? Have you looked for the sign on your friends banners? As for Grouchy, this can probably only be fixed with an update by Beeline.

      • Army Smurf says:

Yes I am sure he is not in a freinds village.

Ohh well I guess I will just have to wait a few more weeks for beeline to work on the issue some more.

  2. Matt says:

    Thanks for the tip

  3. Missing Smurfs. Still says:

Alchemist, Marco & Scardy are all still missing from my village.

  4. Ronn Pitt says:

My sound has gone. All settings are on!
    What went wrong??

  5. Noslrac27 says:

Can I make a backup just for smurfvillage?

    • Smurfette says:

No, an iTunes backup (or iCloud backup) is always for all of your data. If you just want a backup of your village I suggest to connect it with Game Center, because then a version of it is saved on apple's servers and you can either restore it or play on a different device should you want to.

  6. Peter says:

How can i backup and restor my smurf village status with an Android based device?

    • Smurfette says:

It is not so easy on Android, either your manufacturer offers a backup software for your device or you will have to use a third party application that can make a backup of your device's data.

  7. Ejbryson says:

I downloaded the new update and i have no sound, have toggled sound on and off and even restarted iPad no joy? any solutions?

  8. Gwen says:

Hi.. How to update my smurf village on my ipad2 ? I cant visit other village. .Someone pls help

  9. Vio says:

    Hi Smurfette,

Would it be possible for me and my friend to share the same village on two different devices? She and I both have ipads and we'd like to play this game together. Can this be achieved via sharing the same game centre ID?

    Thanks!

  10. Smurfette says:

Yes, it can. You need the same Game Center Account. But you can not play at the same time, because then one progress will be overwritten by the other.

  11. Karen says:

I did a restore on my iPad now my village is back to lev el 26. It's snowing and dreamy smurf is gone, my upgrade of farmer smurfs hut is gone. I hit the papa smurfs head 16 times and tried to load yesterday's village, but when I hit preview village, nothing happens. How can I get it all back?

    • Smurfette says:

You can't, if the update did not bring it back and there are no backup points, you have to just do it over from this point. If you have lost Smurfberries that you bought, you can contact Beeline and they will resend them to you.

  12. muscle smurf says:

    Dear Smurfette,

is it possible to backup my village without the help of game center? I'm only using an iphone 3g.

    • Poet says:

Dear muscle smurf, if you do not want to use game center, you can try the Papa Smurf option. i.e. go to the game's menu, options, and then tap on Papa Smurf's head 16 times, and a 'recover village' button should appear. From there, you can choose which saved you game you wish to retrieve.

  13. norma says:

i recently got an ipad, i did the sync and removed the game from my itouch, but now i keep getting the request to choose "which game do I want?" the saved one or the one from gamecenter. I always pick the game center one, but i keeps asking me every time i log in…even a few time while playing and i have to redo everything i had just done.

    • Brainy says:

I think your local game is newer than the one on the server, that's why game center hasn't replaced your local one with the server one.

Check to see if your local one is up to date by going to game main menu, options, tap on papa smurf head 16 times until recover game button appears, tap on recover game, select saved to to preview.

If the local saved games are pretty recent (haft day to 1 day old) then the next time game center asks you to choose between local and server, just pick local.
This will make game center take the local saved game and overwrite the one on the server.

  14. Ngo Wun says:

I want to choose the "Backup to this computer" option in iTunes because I have a ton of photos that goes well over the iCloud 5 GB limit. Anyway, I can find no options for where to store my backup, scheduling, etc. I want to put it on my huge external USB drive, not my local hard drive but there is nothing in the iTunes menu that lets me control that. Is there some kind of hidden way to choose your backup options?
Also, when I click on "Apply" after selecting "Backup to this computer" the radio button goes back to "Backup to iCloud". What gives there? Thanks…

  15. Marty says:

How do you Back your village up when using Facebook

    • Sassete says:

I dont think that you can use facebook to back up your village. To get a back uo you can use game center or itunes if you are playing on an Ios device. If you are playing on an android you need to back up on a computer.
