With version 1.1.8 (second island update for iOS) it is possible to get a message in a bottle. According to Beeline, it will wash ashore about once every week and give tasks, which, when completed within a week will give rewards. It was claimed earlier this week that few Smurfs’ village players were able to get their message in a bottle but most of them they have manipulated time (time cheat), which is not recommended. However many other players have just got the message in a bottle in their islands, with a list of quests.
According to our believed and Beeline representative Bethany Smith a message in a bottle will wash up on the shore of the island roughly every 168 hours (One week). When you tap on the Bottle you will be given several tasks that are chained together. You must complete all of the tasks within the six day time limit.

Once you have completed all the tasks, you will be given a gift. The gift could contain your first piece of the Totem Pole. If you don’t finish the tasks in the time allowed, you will have to try again when the next bottle appears.
The quests can be long where you will be asked for example to grow 123 Cantaloupes, or 123 tomatoes, but they are rewarding and you may get up 1000 gold Coins, as well as you can get a part of the totem pole. Many players are claiming that they could not place the part of totem pole (dog’s head) , it just disappeared after the gift was opened.
At the moment we are not sure how this works, but we think that you will not be able to place the totem pole until you will get all the parts.
The Totem Pole has been seen in screenshots and advertised by Beeline has a new feature that allows one to control the rain on the island.
Message in a Bottle quests glitches (V.1.1.8)
Many players are experiencing the latest in a series of glitches with the bottle quests, including me(Poet) and Brainy Smurf. For eg, one of your quests might be to harvest 50 eggplants. However, if you exit the game and come back to the island again, you might find that your quest has been changed to harvest 150 eggplants instead! Also, completing these bottle quests might not necessarily get you parts of the totem pole. Players have reported that some of the rewards are just gold and xp, or normal decorative stuff. We are hoping Beeline can rectify these glitches as soon as possible. – Poet Smurf
Heyo, it's been a week and a day since I updated my app and still no bottle has appeared.

I received my second message in a bottle today. It’s located in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, floating in the water just off the shoreline. I would suggest Beeline move it to a different location however because its almost hidden behind the Build/menu button. I have to zoom in and scroll the screen just right to be able to click on it instead of clicking on the menu.

it seems the messages in the bottle and tasks associated with them are a bit "hit and miss",,, i too have had these problems,,, the most irritating was when i visited random village,,, returned to the island and the quest had changed before the current one expired,,,, i was also using smurfberries to expidite the quests,,,, expensive way of losing the "weekly" challange
everytime i visit the island the quest start again from the beginning…
It was 1 smurf for 36 hours, then it beacame 2 smurfs for 47 hours…
and it's the same since saturday morning..so more then 47 hours have passed!
Can anyone tell me how to fix this??
Read old posts and see if you can get the quests to complete itself. Others including myself have done it.
The timer on my message in a bottle has been stuck between 38 and 39 hours for the last 4 days (it is not counting down)… how can I solve this?
I am selling this trick again. May not work for everyone but worth a try.
The quest might complete by itself if u do this 1) Close the game completely. Just reboot device if u dont know how to close the app. Switching to different app wont work. 2) launch game again and go to island.
Thank you for the suggestion, however I have turn on and off the device and signed in and out many times in the last few days and nothing changes. In fact I just tried again and it gained time! (again). Any other thoughts?
Sorry, i dont have any other suggestion. Another option is go visit a neighbor (not random neighbor) but I guess u have done that already.

Ah, I've just experienced the resetting timer. Closing the app doesn't seem to do anything, so it looks like I'll be waiting this one out.
Although I've still got a problem with one of my rafts. Haven't been able to select it for over a week now, even with all smurfs accounted for. I've reported to Beeline though.
i have the same problem on 3 of my rafts. It doesnt do anything when you tap on it.
Beeline has released 2 updates and still haven't fixed the raft issue i've been experiencing before 2 updates.

Im on the 2nd quest sending 2 smurfs into the forest to prepare for brainy's lecture, the timer gets reset every day back up to 33, my smurfs have come back but the bottle says i still haven't finished the quest and that i have 5 smurfs in the forest but all my smurfs are in the island.
i can't complete the 3rd bottle quest- 5 smurf are gone and the time jumps back to 26 hours for the last 3 days

Task 1 harvest 24 honeydew- changed to 31 next time I went in
Task 2 send out raft for 24 hours – I used smurfberries to bring back , raft came bak but did not clear the quest. Lost my smurfberries and had to send out raft again. Now won't. Pamphleteer tasks in time

hello, recently completed the challenge of the bottle but not recbi the first part of totem. This is my nick in game center MAZINGER500 (add me)
not everybody gets the totem pole. Some people spent smurfberries to speed up quests and got only chairs, bench, xp or coins. No totem pole piece.

There is no guarantee that you get a pice of the totem pole when you finishe the bottle quest you can also get coins and xp or a green rocking chair that you received.

reading all e comments, i think i can consider myself v lucky… glitches happen as:
task 1 – 8hrs rafting – complete w/o issue
task 2 – 3 smurfs 44hrs explore quest – as expected, e time elapse keep increasing instead of counting dw
i got scared n used 1 smurfberry to bring them bck… but im missing a smurf..
task 3 – 12 honey dews – half way it change to 15 – but completed my task by harvest 12 of them
task 4 – 39 tomatoes – received my first piece totem wo harvest any of them while e first batch stil growing
hope its resolve in coming update n SOON.
btw, how to get my missing smurf bck?
Are you able to tap on the raft and cancel it? The latest update gives you that option.
Hi cyril, i finish the botte contest in 4 parts … Then i had gift maybe one part of the totem… I open the gift and the first totem part dispear… And the bottle also…is it normal?
Yes, this is normal. Once you gotten all 4 parts, you should see the full totem pole.

This has been covered in the comments already and you say Beeline are working on it, so no need to reply, but just to add my voice to the bug count:
I am one of those who keep getting the bait-and-switch from the bottle. First quest was to plant pineapple (I think), so I did. While those were growing, the bottle changed it to honeydew. I left the first crop in place, but they didn’t count as completed when I harvested them and planted the honeydew. The honeydew did count as completed upon harvest, and I was told to plant pineapple, which are currently still growing, but now the bottle wants tomatoes. So I googled to see if it was just me or if this was supposed to happen; glad my frustration is not misplaced and I’m not alone!
Once these pineapple are finished growing, I’m going to plant the crops that Papa wants and ignore the bottle until they fix the glitch. This is the first such problem I’ve had with the game, and it’s unbelievably annoying.

Ok, thanks. The quest was completed and only the 3 smurfs returned. So, still don’t know where my other 2 smurfs are. Maybe they are still vacationing?
Hopefully Beeline will fix issue. Do you think that I should email them and tell them about my missing smurfs? I know they are probably getting a lot emails with other things as well.

In the message in a bottle quest I have lost four smurfs! will I get them back? I did get a totem gift but it went away, and the time and amount of planting was all wrong . I also used a smurfberry
to finish a quest!
I had the same thing happening this morning. Send it to beeline, but decided to recover the village from earlier today. Average help from beeline takes due to all the issues more than a week.
During a bottle quest, I sent out a smurf for 35hrs but the time kept resetting itself so I used a smurfberry to bring him back. It worked and I continued to the next quest (which finished without me doing anything) but now I'm missing the one smurf that was supposedly brought back. What to do??
I was asked to send out 5 smurfs and then it was changed to 3. I am now missing 2 smurfs. Has anyone else had this problem?
Yesterday i have got my first question for the bottle, but everything time whenever i come in the game time starts counting again. The time mensioned under: 4days and 6 houres left is counting right, What must i do? (sorry for my english).

Did the bottle message said the quest was complete? If so, it could be the latest in a series of bugs. We are also waiting to hear from the Beeline team when they return next week.

I am sorry to hear that. Usually, the time difference between IOS and Android updates should not be longer than 2 to 3 weeks. Just be patient. The update should come soon. And since you are reading and learning about the bugs we are facing, I don't think you are looking forward to that right? lol.

Go into your options within the game Eric and tap on papa smurfs head around 16 times to bring up a recovery option… From there you can preview a restore and choose the right one. Also if you are running the newest iPod software (for ios users) log into game center…it will keep a copy of your village in the cloud on their servers.

I am 3rd quest after I finished with 23 tomatoes, then it asked me to plant 56 of honeydew, and I left it on my iPad after two hours and I came back and found it changed to 56 eggplants! Its kinda wasted my time. Will anyone fix it? I'm on 31 level.
This is a bug. You can hang on for the moment while we wait for Beeline's development team to give us some answers next week.
Everytime I close the game I receive a warning that a message in a bottle arrived. It's always the same 25 hour quest, but it starts counting from the start everytime. i will ignore the bottle untill we get the fix.
Yup. The best you can do for now is to ignore until Beeline gives us some official answers next week.
Fortunately my smurf came back after 25 hours. The quest is not completed though.

I believe what he meant was that the 5 smurfs that got sent out for the 25 hours quest came back but when we tap on the bottle, the quest is still on-going, starting the countdown from 25 hours again! However, all our smurfs are already back on the island.
After doing the first message in a bottle and reading the myriad issues one has to wonder if Beeline even tested this latest addition to the game. Slow down and get it right. The island has way too many bugs as it is.

I had the same thing happen to me. Also, my game no longer changes to night as it did when I first started the game.

When did you get the latest update? Beeline has probably set it such that you need to wait at least a week after your update before the bottle appears.

My first message completed itself after I exited and came back in, my second finished in half the time required but wilted my crops, the third was counting up instead of down, so I used 2 of my precious SB to finish the last 2 and got given a chair? Where is the totem pole?
Hi, firstly, the bottled quests are bugged. A lot of us are experiencing it. Secondly, it is not a guarantee that your reward will be part of the totem pole. You will have to wait another week for the next bottle to show up.
Thanks for that, didn’t realise you could get other gifts, just assumed it would be part of the totem. May just wait for the next update before I do any other messages. Love the game otherwise.
the bottle asked me to send 2 smurfs to the forest for 44 hr, but seems like the timer is not working, ! i'm gonna need for than 5 days then…. and also i have to click on the bottle several times to check the quest….
Every time I go to my island and tap on the bottle, it says I have 55 minutes and 59 seconds remaining. I will go out of the game and the next time (a few hours later) go back in, and the bottle says the same thing…55 hours and 59 minutes. It's counting down as long as I'm on the island, but as soon as I long out, it resets..???
It's a glitch. We are waiting for Beeline to respond to this.
My first bottle quest is to send out 6 smurfs in the forest for 48 hours, but when the clock reaches 33 hrs, it will toggle between 34 hrs and 33 hrs left. Even returning to the game 3 hrs later, The clock has changed. I cannot move forward. It’s frustrating.

My first bottle quest completed itself in just a few hrs. My dam also went from eighty-some hours to complete. I'm not time cheating! I had this time glitch before in my main village and with marco smurf. It's annoying that beeline just does the easy thing and assumes it's time cheating – rather than take the time to look into the problem. The glitch kinda sucks – my crops wilt and that costs me coins.
Sorry to hear but this is a bug that many players have experienced and it seems like it only happens a qouple of times after that it works perfect.
My husband is having the same problem on his island and he got tired of losing coins. To make up for it, he sends out as many rafts as he can, and due to the time glitch, he's making a lot of XP and coins in a matter of minutes. If you want to supplement the coins you're losing from your crops, consider doing raft tasks only.

The notification is a glitch. Sometimes, you get the notification even after you have found the bottle, and sometimes you don't.
I still have to wait until the bottle is returned, right?
Actually, looking at your last posts, you mentioned you are at level 22. Not sure if this bottle quest is akin to the island land expansion which requires players to be level 24. If so, it might explain why you can't see the bottle yet.
I'm seem to be stuck in a time loop on my first message in a bottle quest as well. Initially it was send 5 Smurfs for 28 hours, so I sent them off and now every time I exit the game the time in which they should be back keeps increasing, it's currently 40 hours instead of the 11 or so it should be.
Anyone have this issue…I get out of the game to and I come back for the quest to restart itself then hours go by I come back to the game and I have to do a new quest completely different then the previous? How are we suppose to complete quests if they change erroneous you go in them. I want my totem piece !!!
Help… It’s impossible to access my bottle. It’s too close to the build menu so every time I try to open it I open the build menu instead. Has anyone else experience this?

You have to zoom in a bit. If you do that the bottle will be farther away from the build menu icon.
can you complete the quest on the village or does it have to be done on the island?

They should be there when you reach the required levels to trigger the quests.
Yes bugs for my first message in a bottle as well. The first task was completed without even knowing what crops and amount to grow. 2nd task was send a raft out for an hour, completed now 3rd task was to send 5 smurfs out to the forest except each time I exit and go back the time away is increasing ! It has gone from 42 hours to 45 & now 46! I watch it count down but when I go back in if has increased! Bug be gone beeline!
We are aware of this glitch and expecting some answers next week when Beeline's development team returns.

It was asked me to send 1 smurf for 24 hours out…when i came back the quest has changed for: 2 smurfs for 48 hours!!
Confirmation of needing ALL the pieces of the totem pole prior to being able to place just one would be extremely helpful. Imagine the frustration of going through the time-consuming quests and not have anything to show for it as I found out after completing the first one today.
I just got the message in a bottle with a quest to grow 63 crops of tomatoes. I exited out of the game by accident, came back on, and it said quest complete for the first part of the message in a bottle! I exited out again on purpose to see what would happen and surely enough my second quest of the message in a bottle was complete as well to send a smurf out for 29 hours! This didn’t work a third time, but I think this is a glitch that I actually like. Any ideas on why this happened or if it’s happened to anyone else?
I have an other Bug. I had to send out a Raft for 1h. But when ist was back, the Quest was Not completed and i got an other….
Reading all of the comments below. This no longer sounds like a harmless glitch. I have lost soo many coins on the island because of the glitch wilting my crops. I’ve also had the bottle quests count backward by adding time to the quest. I’m ready to give up on attempting the bottle quests.
Has that been confirmed by Beeline because I've read on other Facebook sites that folks successfully placed the first part of the pole.

Sorry to bother Brainy. I'm playing using ipad. I connect to wi-fi once a week, to check sales-off and wait for the bottle.. but no bottle. should I connect exactly on Friday 4pm? Last Saturday I was connected on 10pm but no bottle, the yellow duck instead appeared.. I only received one "false" notice about the bottle ashore on the island, but no bottle was there..
and about the rare pavillon: is coming only from a MIAB quest (as B.Smith says) or also as a gift from rafts (as one post here reported)? I can still hope, one working raft while three missing rafts till now.. : ((
You should only get a bottle if you have gotten the island
if you have used time cheat, they won't appear for a week. If you use time cheat longer, then the bottle would not appear for a longer time. If you use time cheat too much, it is possible that the bottle will never appear anymore, so watch out!
I'm on level 31, had the island since the start, have the latest updates, and have not used time cheat etc. but I haven't received a single bottle too. Does anyone know why?
Playing on iPad 3 and never a bottle level 30 now, I did trasfer game from iPhone everything else is working

This was just from this Friday, but I would lose an entire piece of clockwork ( a big one). I guess I should just bite the bullet and do restore it back before it gets too far along. I won't touch the MIAB now until I know it is fixed again, but it was working fine for me until now. I did contact Beeline with my complaint as this was more than just an annoyance (and I have been very patient with all the bugs so far). Don't expect much, but I won't even get a response until after the weekend for sure, so I think I will just have to go back. Aack, I will never finish Clockwork Smurf! Thanks again, Brainy.

There is a new update for smurf which is release on 3rd July 2012, does beeline already fix anything? Especially the bottle quest. Because I haven't got any piece of totem pole since I send my smurf and the bottle disappear
