Upgrading Houses
ByAll of the available mushroom houses can accommodate up to three Smurfs. Once a house has been build a new Smurf will come back from the forest and enter the village to live there.
Taping on the house opens a window on the right-hand side of the display, at the bottom of that is an upgrade button (only available from level 9 onwards after Handy Smurf’s Mushroom house has been build).
The first upgrade costs 500 Coins and visually adds doorsteps to the house and now two Smurfs can live in it.
A third upgrade adds another Smurf to the village, this one is available for 4 Smurfberries and hence the maximum number of Smurfs being able to live in a house is three. This upgrade adds an attic and a laundry line to the mushroom house.
If more Smurfs are needed there is also an option in the Smurfberry-Shop to buy a new Smurf for 5 Smurfberries without the need to provide him with lodgings.
Are there any differences in the mushroom houses other than appearance and price?

alchemist smurf is telling me to upgrade papa smurf's house but when i click on the house, it only asks me if i want to play the game….what do i do?
It is an error that came with the latest update, there is nothing you can do about it other than to wait for Beeline to fix it.
At handy workshop the hummer is not doing anything what can i do;
First try to restart your device and sync it to itunes if restarting does not help. That usually solves issues like that
What's the point of upgrading a house for 500 coins to get 1 smurf? Isn't it cheaper to build another house for 30 coins? I am on level 12 with no intention of buying smurfberries.
You can only build one house per level, so on level 12, you can have 12 Smurfs (not counting the free ones at the beginning of the game), but by upgrading the house you can have then 24 Smurfs.
Yes. So the max level achievable is 40. Two upgrades per house = 120 plots of land or shrubs or planters. Then you could add Smurfs for 5 Smurfberries.
I am on level 36 and I have 96 or 97 Smurfs. I think I have about 45 Caterpillars (and a few Snails), 12 Butterflies, a Frog, 8 Squirrels.
I also have an Orange Mushroom which I earned from my Smurfs Grabber game. I am trying to earn a coloured bench too (in a colour you cant buy in the game) from the Smurfs Grabber game, which is linked to my Village.
I haven't seen ay discussion here about linked games like the Smurfs Grabber game.

Either upgrade a house, build a new house (you might have to wait for the next level to do that) or buy one in the Smurfberry Shop for 5 Smurfberries.

I upgraded a house but somehow didn't get an extra smurf. Available smurfs says 27/28. And if I try and buy a 28th piece of land to grow crops it says I need another smurf. None of my smurf are out in the forest. How do I get my 28th smurf?
You already have 28 Smurfs.The 27 means you have 27 smurfs out of 28 not working, so one smurf is either working or in the forrest. If you are sure that you only have 27 crop fields, then you probably got either a flower box or a shrub (little tree that grows fruits) that a smurf is working on at the moment. The number of crop fields, flower boxes and shrubs together equalls the number of Smurfs you have living in your village.
how can i ask Handy to upgrade a house?
Just tap on the house you want to upgrade and press on the "Upgrade" button at the bottom.
I upgraded a house and it is still requesting I ask Handy to help me upgrade a house
I also upgraded but still asking to upgrade using handy so I even upgraded using smurfberrys and still not worked…… confused!!
This seems to be a bug, please contact Beeline about it so they can fix it.

I’m on level 36 and when I upgraded my last two or three houses for 500, no additional smurfs appeared! It says total population 71/74–what does that mean???

You are right, the laundry line is added when you upgrade with Smurfberries, I changed the article.
if i dont have Smurfberries how can upgrad papa smurf house?
You do not need Smurfberries to Upgrade Papa Smurf's House, please read the article about Alchemist Smurf on how to Upgrade his house.
I visit smurf villages randomly and have seen a house upgrade with stars and the moon on the dome. How do you get this upgrade.

I am on level 41 and I upgraded a house and I did not get another smurf. It says that I am at smurf limit. This is the same with snails and caterpillars, I have reached creature limit.

at level 22, papa smurf asked me to upgrade a house because of some spell that gargamel cast… i have upgraded all my houses and have to wait till the next level for another house.. how do i complete this task?? p/s: i dont want to use any smurfberries…
if you do not want to upgrade with Smurfberries you have to wait for the next level until you can build a house again. There is no way to skip tasks.
Or you could build a new house and upgrade that with coins
As he said, he already upgraded all of his houses, so he can not just build a new one but has to wait for the next level when he is once again allowed to upgrade it. I think this question was already answered satisfactory.

I upgraded a house but a smurf did.not come to my village.
The total number available on the left upper corner didn’t go up.
When I click a mushroom house it says population 21/22. The available smurf section says 0/21.

I have the same issue but I dont have 250 characters
I only ever encountered this problem with the character limti. If you go to the Smurfberry Items shop there is a smurf that you can buy for 4 Berries. Does it say "At character limit" there? If it does not, I can only advice to contact Beeline at support@beeline-i.com
Hi, I have the same issue. Upgraded a house but a new smurf didn't come, and i I haven't reach the character limit yet. I emailed beeline and I'm waiting for their reply.
Beeline replied me within a day, saying that I have reached the character limit. I replied them saying I'm only at level 23 and I only have 47/48 smurf, far from the 250 limit. It has been 2 days and I'm still waiting for their next reply..
I have the same issue. I upgraded a house bud didn't get a new smurf.. When i click on a house, i see 'Total population 51 / 52' so i miss 1 smurf indeed. I didn't reach the character limit, since i only have 51 smurfs, and 1 snail and 1 catterpillar (and i can buy new ones).. looks like a bug?

Upgraded more houses, got more smurfs, but one is still missing (28 smurfs per 29 housings).
How do I upgrade a house by using handy, When I click on Handy then they asks me if i want to play the game. And if I upgrade a house using 500 coins then is not doing anything to compleet the question.

Im now at level 20. I had 43 smurfs. But now the population is 12
but when i check them at the mushroom house it is 12/43

somebody told me this trick to bring back the smurfs. I haven't tried it so I dont know if it works or not.
Tap on papa smurf head 16 times to bring up saved village. Go preview a village. When u exit the preview, it asks u if u want to play that village. Choose NO.
The go back to village and see if all smurfs are there.

They are gone.
that's a game bug/glitch. U can wait for beeline to fix the problem or restore your village.

You need to answer 5 questions from apapa smurf first to upgrade Handys hut and this happen in the main village not on the island
